The first Thanksgiving was held in 1621, just after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock for the very first time. During their journey, the Pilgrims had lost just about half of their original settlers. A great number of Indians who had previously been living on the land helped the Pilgrims get through the treacherous winter. To celebrate, the Pilgrims and the Indians had a magnificent 3-day feast to unite each other.
Many years went by, and the celebration was slightly changed each time until in George Washington proclaimed it as a national holiday in 1789. Later, in 1863, it was Abraham Lincoln who designated Thanksgiving as the fourth Thursday in November. Almost 100 years later, Congress sanctioned it as a legal holiday in 1941.
To observe the holiday, we will be closed Thursday, November 22nd through Saturday, November 24th. We at Richey-Barrett Insurance hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families, and feel free to contact your Trusted Choice insurance agency with any insurance needs.
